Breast Feeding Babies
As most will agree, breast feeding babies is the healthiest form of nutrition. It is the reason you have breasts right? Then why do so many Mother's choose to bottle feed? Where have our instincts gone? Even 28 years ago, I remember my own Mother discouraging me from breast feeding at a very young age of 18. I don't know why, but my instincts told me that breastfeeding was the right thing to do.
Now, with all of the research I do, I'm also pretty confident that there was probably no DHA in the formula fed me. Could I have been more mentally capable had my Mother breast fed? Check out my journey for a clearer picture of what I speak of.
No lab can create a chemical concoction that will provide your new baby with just the right nutrition as your body does. Stop for a moment and think about that. A chemical concoction? Is that really what you want your child to consume? These concoctions consist of some very dangerous ingredients. Soy for example is a popular infant formula generally recommended for babies who have allergies to whey based formulas. One of the main reasons it is crucial to work hard at breast feeding babies.
In Volume 11 of the Wise Traditions periodical, published for the Weston A. Price foundation, Gail ELbek writes:
Medwatch has a long list of severe and fatal adverse effects reported by parents feeding their children soy formula. Medwatch reports are concealed from the public unless researched through FOIA (Freedom of Information Act). The thought of loving parents who feed their infants toxic soy formula without any chance of knowing they are encouraging the irreversible painful health effects for their children is nearly unbearable.
Here is a testimony to the CEHR, (Commission for Equality and Human Rights) from Gail on the dangers of feeding babies soy formula.
That being said, lets talk about breastfeeding babies and ways you can not only guarantee quality bonding time with your child and be sure you have a sufficient milk supply.
If you've been following my recommendations through pregnancy, you will already be ahead of the game because your body has been primed to pump with the nutrient dense food options I've laid out in Phase II. If you've just found the site, please refer to this phase as well, our foods to avoid page.
Should you find while breastfeeding babies your milk supply seems insufficient, increase your fat in the form of coconut oil and butter.
There is an herbal tea that is a favorite among breast feeding Moms today. Mother's Milk Tea.
This very special tea promotes healthy lactation for breast feeding babies and is traditionally used to increase breast milk production. This traditional combination of fenugreek, anise, fennel and caraway has been in continuous use for centuries by European women. Organic Mother's Milk is recommended by lactation counselors and medical herbalists.
The moment I took all 3 of my children off the breast and put them on formula, I noticed changes in their skin though at that time, I didn't have a clue that it was due to the change. We have so few intimate bonding times with our children. Don't allow others to influence you and don't allow your baby to take second fiddle to your schedule. The life long difference in health will certainly be worth the sacrifices you might have to make for such a short period of time.
American's are so quick to remove the child from the breast. Partially due to our need to return to work at such an early age. There are some superior pumps on the market and a 15 minute break to pump twice daily should be attainable. If it isn't, evaluate what changes can be made to your daily schedule to accommodate this crucial activity for the health of your baby.
There is nothing quite like the feeling of stroking your baby's head while on the breast only to find them stop for a moment and look you in the eyes.
Breast Feeding Babies is the second most important job of the mother with the first being pregnancy of course.
