I have a question about Gout! I have followed your diet for about 16 weeks. I began having ankle pain during week 13 and finally went to the doctor and was diagnosed with gout. He instructed me to reduce my red meat intake and to increase my water. In addition he changed my blood pressure medicine (off diuretics which is a major cause of gout).

I went on line to research food items with high purines which can trigger gout. It listed: cauliflower, spinach, asparagus, organ meats, pork, bouillion, chicken, beef, oats, beans, full grains and non-refined sugars!

Well now I am at a loss as to what I should eat and still stay low carb. Can you help me?

I'm feeling somewhat defeated as my weight loss was going well on the low carb healthy eating plan!

This helped me

Thank you for your information on gout. My doctor has been telling me that my paleo diet is going to make my gout worse but I feel so much better.

I actually had so much pain in my right toe that I just wanted to cut it off.

I am strict on my diet and I drink lemon water with milk thistle every day. My toe feels better and I have lost 35 pounds in 3 months. Thank you for the printable grocery lists Misty, they are really helping.

Love,
Shirley

Hi Bet
Thank you for your comment. I'm so sorry you're suffering from gout.

You know, one of my mentors is Robb Wolf, a biochemist who wrote "The Paleo Solution". He confirmed my education of gout which is a liver issue rather than that of a purine issue.

Uric Acid crystals percipitate into the joints. It's caused by metabolic derangement and potentially gluten intolerance.

We need to address liver function for you. Unfortunately, current dietary advice can make the problem worse.

I'm going to recommend you do a gentle liver cleanse by utilizing some milk thistle and lemon in water 2-3x daily.

Stick to a lower carbohydrate diet, make sure you are consuming no vegetable oils and incorporate some coconut oil for healthy liver regeneration/function.

This is contrary to physician recommendation but I've seen it work time and again.

Let me know how you do.

In good health
Misty
